Hear ye!  Hear ye!  I am the scribe for April 24, 2008.  Our guest speaker was Vicky Bruno from Bloomfield school district.  She talked about sign language and that we could teach our students using sign language.  I took the challenge and taught my first graders "bathroom" and "drink".  I noticed that having students sign instead of talking is more quiet.  The students love to sign just as Vicky has mentioned.  She states that sign language is visual and it's easier to learn when seeing.  Also at the same time, one can read lips without asking what is being said.  By using sign language we are using both sides of our brain.  Unfortunately, sign language is not universal due to different languages.  Those who use sign language have their own cultures and have their own social circles.  Vicky will be retiring this year after a long hard work of helping students and parents.  Good job and thank you for coming to our class.
