I Am From . . .

I am from the base of Lukachukai Mountains

Near a rock formation called Mitten Rock

Even thought it doesn't look like a mitten,

But my parents thought it was the place for building a foundation

Boarding School was the place to learn

Even though Utah was the place I yearned

To be the middle child was like being lost of thirteen,

All I wanted to be was a teen

I am from a diverse childhood

That would make you hoot,

I am from wagon, horses and sheep

Where I did not get all my sleep,

I am from speaking Navajo

And not knowing how,

I am from traditions

Only to make my own new creations,

I am from shamans

To men of God and be not ashame,

I am from dusty dirt roads

To highway to take the loads,

I am from a naive Navajo girl

To have dreams that me whirl,

I am from my father and mother

To become a mother,

I am from the genes of the past

So my children and grandchildren will last,

I am from a Heavenly Being

That wants me to be.
