Four Major Strands of Work:

Communication
Working with students, I find that communication is very important and it's important in all aspect of life.  Being able to work with students, I need to let my students know what I expect from them or what I would like for them to understand.  Also making sure they understand is important.  Some will act like they understand, but they don't.  You will find that out when they take a test or see it in their writing.  I would keep asking and explaining.  Some students are shy and reluctant to ask for help.

Research
Before teaching anything, I have to do some research and have that extra help for myself.  This way students will understand more and if they ask a question, I will be able to explain more because I did some research.  Researching brings more knowledge and understanding.  It is good research to find what kind of books go with which genres.  I had not paid attention to that before.

Technology
Oh, the use of technology!  I would not know where I would be if it weren't for technology. I am not savvy with computers, but it sure helps my work go faster and easier.  Students are really into technology and so I must try to keep up with them.  I don't even text on my cell phone.  One thing is that it costs for me to text and it costs to have unlimited texting.  Oh well.  It is good to see students using notebooks in the classroom.

Collaboration
I would not be able to survive any of my UNM classes if it weren't for collaboration.  I collaborate with my classmates; some assignments that I do not understand or some class activity that we are to work on.  Also to sit together as classmates to discuss what we could do to help our students to be involved and asking questions or ask questions.  Hopefully, students see that we as students do collaborate for further understanding.

Five Dimensions of Learning:

Confidence and Independence
As I take more classes, I have become more confident and more independent.  Because my classes give me more knowledge and more information.  With this I can continue to build on to help those that will need my help.  I have enjoy reading more than I have before and I am glad that this skill will be of help to me each day.  As I have working with Tibbetts students, I notice some of the students are opening up for discusssion; everyone has something to say and something to believe in.  It is good to see everyone participate.

Knowledge Content
Knowledge content is what I know right now.  The wonderful thing about that is that I get to build onto it.  That is exciting for me!  Just think students that I will teach will build their knowledge content!  That is exciting too!  As I have been different children stories, I have been learning about different genres.  So I think about that first before I start to read; sometimes I don't know what genre it is until I am finished reading.

Skills and Strategies
This area I am still working, I fee like anyway.  I have not acquired all the skills and strategies yet and who does?  That is what learning is all about.  But I have learned from classroom lectures and field work that this area can be improved.  I learn from watching others do their work and I hope that I will become efficient to be a teacher.  Some students have made connections with the books that they have been reading and some already know how to make connections.  We as UNM students show the examples of how to do that and they are followers.  They continue to practice as they read.

Use of Prior and Emerging Experience
I feel that this area has helped me to become confident and skilled.  I used to be ashamed of my childhood, but I have learned that my background is one of my strong point as becoming an educator.  I have learned to accept my childhood and it has become very special to me.  My childhood is wonderful and I would be selfish if I don't share it with others especially with my children and grandchildren.

Reflectiveness (critical awareness)
I had heard from UNM students who are teachers now that I will be asked to be reflective and writing many reflections.  This has been true.  I can see why I have to reflective or else I will not learn my weakness and how I could improve.  If I am not reflective, I will not learn from my students and my colleagues.  Being reflective is the gateway to more knowledge and understanding.  Reflectiveness will help to see others and how I could connect with them.

Midterm Evaluation
I have really enjoyed this class thus far and I don't regret registering for this class.  I feel that I have improved my reading skills and developed a stronger habit of reading.  I have to read now and I am enjoy reading.  I don't ever remember wanting to read.  I always read my textbook which was full of information, but it was not my first choice to read.  I hope to continue to read even after I am done with this class at the end of the semester.  I love Frances and she is doing a fine job and I understand her reasoning for running our schedule like she is for this semester and other semesters.  Of course, I want a good grade, but I have to earn it.  But  I would love an A and I will be happy.
